Trade your office job for the best job in the world! The SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC) is your pathway to becoming a certified scuba diving instructor. 

As an instructor candidate with Tas Divers, you'll complete an intensive development program alongside our experienced instructor team — learning how to teach scuba diving to others, refine your own skills to an instructor standard, and develop the knowledge and confidence to train scuba courses professionally.

This qualification is globally recognised and opens the door to a career teaching diving across Tasmania and around the world.

Course Outline | Intensive Format | 8-day course | 2-day exam

1. Digital Learning (Online Study): develop a thorough understanding of dive theory, teaching concepts, and professional standards
2. Classroom & Presentation Skills: learn how to deliver effective dive theory presentations and student briefings
3. Pool Training: develop and demonstrate instructor-level in-water skills and teaching
4. Ocean Dives: demonstrate dive leadership and teaching ability across a range of open water conditions and dive sites
5. Instructor Examination (IE)*: complete the SSI Instructor Examination conducted by an independent SSI Examiner

Prerequisites

• SSI Divemaster, and Enriched Air Nitrox 40 certifications or equivalent from a recognised training agency
• Minimum age | 18 years old
• Minimum 60 logged dives to participate in ITC (100 logged dives to sit the IE)
• Be an Open Water Diver or higher for at least 6 months prior to starting ITC

This comprehensive program is part of SSI’s 2-Step Instructor Training Approach. It begins with the Instructor Training Course combination, supported by immersive digital learning. After successfully completing the ITC, you will attend the Instructor Evaluation (IE) to become an SSI Open Water Instructor.

*The Instructor Examination (IE) is an additional cost of $724 paid by the student — this fee is non-negotiable and is paid to SSI directly upon completion of the ITC.
