Your first step in becoming a PADI Professional is the PADI Dive Master course! To gain this qualification, you must complete an internship with our PADI instructor team. You will gain experience teaching people how scuba dive in real world situations, while perfecting important skills such as buoyancy control, rescue skills and how to supervise divers. This qualification is widely used for employment in the dive industry.

Course Outline | Run over weeks

  1. Knowledge Development (Online Study): complete PADI Divemaster eLearning at your own pace
  2. Pool Training: in-water skills workshops, training pool sessions with students
  3. Ocean Dives: supervise and work in the ocean
  4. Mentoring: assist on real dive courses with certified instructors. Gain hands-on experience leading dives, conducting briefings and managing students and logistics

  • Supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers
  • Diver safety and risk management
  • Divemaster conducted programs and specialised skills
  • Business of diving and your career
  • Awareness of the dive environment
  • Dive setup and management
  • Mapping an open water site
  • Conducting dive briefings
  • Organising a search and recovery project and a deep dive
  • Conducting a scuba review and skin diver course
  • Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs

Prerequisites 

  • PADI Rescue Diver certification or equivalent qualification from another training agency
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • At least 40 logged dives (60 to earn qualification)
  • Current First Aid and CPR ticket
  • Current dive medical - ask us for more details
  • Must be able to
    • Swim 400m continuously
    • Swim 800m (with mask, snorkel, fins)
    • Tread water for 15min (last 2min hands above surface)

  • Transport - you will need to be able to transport your scuba gear (including tanks) for the duration of the course/all sessions
  • Medical statement (mandatory)
  • First Aid & CPR tickets
  • Dive insurance (required upon completion to be active status)

Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.

Please review the Diver Medical Form before enrolling in a scuba course. If you answer 'Yes' to any of the questions, you must see a doctor and present a dive medical/clearance to dive before we can accept you onto the course.
