The SSI Photo & Video Diver specialty program teaches you the professional tips, tricks and techniques to take stunning photos and compelling video while scuba diving. Whether you're shooting with a GoPro, an action camera or a dedicated underwater housing, this course will transform the way you see β€” and share β€” the underwater world.

Course Outline | 2 Components | 2 Dives

  1. Digital Learning (Online Study): understand the principles of underwater photography and videography at your own pace
  2. Ocean Dives: 2 ocean dives putting your new skills into practice with hands-on coaching from your instructor

  • The SEA Method (Shoot, Examine, Adjust)
  • Choosing the right camera system & understanding your settings
  • Principles of good underwater composition β€” framing, subject placement, shutter speed, aperture
  • Using available light and artificial light underwater
  • Buoyancy control for safe & stable photography
  • Protecting marine life & the environment

Prerequisites

  • SSI Open Water Diver certification or equivalent from a recognised training agency
  • Minimum age | 10 years old

Please note: we do not provide camera equipment. Bring your own setup β€” GoPro, action camera or dedicated underwater housing β€” and your instructor will help you understand it and adjust your settings for the best possible results underwater.

Medical Requirements

Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.

Please review the Diver Medical Form before enrolling in a scuba course. If you answer 'Yes' to any of the questions, you must see a doctor and present a dive medical/clearance to dive before we can accept you onto the course.
