When: 23rd October 2025

Location: Fortescue Bay boat ramp

Time: 10am briefing, be in the water by 10:45am

The Longspined sea urchin Centrostephanus rodgersii is an invasive species to Tassie waters and creating barrens by overgrazing algae, seaweed and kelp, etc. They are also found in beautiful Tasmania Fortescue Bay and threatening the kelp forests which is an important habitat to other Tassie marine life, such as abalones and crayfish.

During this dive, our aim is to remove some Longspined sea urchin from the area by culling and catching them. We could bring the sea urchin back to shore and eat the roe.

The dive site is around 6m deep. Any certified divers are welcome. There is no pressure on catching and culling the longspined sea urchin, you could just follow our dive guide and enjoy the dive.

Things you will need:
Scuba Gear BYO or DISCOUNTED equipment hire is available
A dive knife (recommend) For culling and catching sea urchin
A pair of gloves (recommend) For handling sea urchin due to its fragile and sharp spines
