Dive Deep

Become a PADI Deep Diver

First you will complete some dive theory online by learning about reasons for deep diving and how important it is to know your personal limits. The theory will be followed by 4 boat dives run over two days, usually a weekend. During the course you will have an in depth look at the effects of nitrogen loading and narcosis, pressure at depth and decompression sickness. Some of the topics covered during the weekend are:

  • Specialised deep diving equipment

  • Deep dive planning, buddy contact procedures and buoyancy control

  • Managing your gas supply

  • Completing tasks at depth

  • Navigation exercises

  • Simulated emergency decompression stop

  • Carrying and using a redundant air supply

  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent)

  • Minimum age of 15 years

  • PADI e-Learning

  • Professional Instruction

  • Tanks and weights

  • Specialised deep diving equipment

  • 4 x Boat dives

  • Snacks & refreshments between dives

The 4 boat dives will be conducted out of Eaglehawk Dive Centre on the Tasman Peninsula, home to some of the best dive sites in Tasmania including the SS Nord shipwreck and Cathedral Caves. You will see a fair amount of soft corals typical for Tasmania's temperate water, an abundance of anenomes and butterfly perches, maybe even one of the many fur seals says hello.

  • Scuba equipment. Gear hire is available in store for a discounted rate if you do not have your own

  • A personal dive computer

  • A dive torch

  • SMB with reel (surface marker buoy)

  • Own Transport - you will need to be able to transport your SCUBA equipment during the duration of the course
