The next time someone loses an item underwater, you can be the hero that finds the missing object! In the PADI Search and Recovery course, you'll learn how to find lost objects underwater. You'll practice different types of underwater search patterns and learn how to use a lift bag as you plan and execute mock search operations.

Course Outline | 2 components | 2 days

  1. Knowledge Development (Online Study): understand the principles of search and recovery
  2. Ocean Dives: 4 x open water dives

Topics/Skills

  • Search patterns using a compass & natural navigation
  • Locating large & small objects
  • Utilising a lift bag to recover large/heavy objects
  • Planning a search operation based on facts given
  • Circular, expanding square, jack-stay, u-pattern 
  • Various knots including bowline, sheet bend, two half hitches
  • Lift bag operation & dump valve

Prerequisites 

  • PADI Open Water Diver certification or equivalent qualification from another training agency
  • Minimum age of 12 years

We will provide specialised search & recovery equipment, however we do recommend purchasing your own for future diving. We can help you best select the most appropriate equipment for your needs.

Every PADI Specialty certification you earn gets you one step closer to becoming a Master Scuba Diver. This elite rating is achieved by only 2% of divers.

Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.

Please review the Diver Medical Form before enrolling in a scuba course. If you answer 'Yes' to any of the questions, you must see a doctor and present a dive medical/clearance to dive before we can accept you onto the course.
